Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Moche II, ca. 300 to 400 CE. A superb Moche stirrup vessel - a type of early beer jar - in the form of a very angry monkey - or possibly a shaman in transformational pose. He sits with arms folded over his bent knees, mouth open with his canine teeth ready to inflict painful bites. Size: 7.5" H (19 cm)
