Description
Chinese, Qing Dynasty Tongzhi Period mark (1862-74), likely of the period. A finely painted porcelain brush pot of cylindrical form painted by hand on tondo with interior figural scene depicting three people seated around a tall floor screen decorated with blue and white painted landscape motif, with flowering urns peeking out from behind screen, pedestal table at front center with flaming censer atop, a table to left of figures bearing vase holding peacock or other large bird feathers, and two butterflies or bats in flight at sides. Underside with four character iron red mark for the Tongzhi imperial reign. Approximate height 5", diameter 3". Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
Condition
Overall wear commensurate with age and use. Losses to enamel overall, with some fading, flea bites, pock marks, and losses to gilding. Some staining to interior. Minor roughness to interior rim, likely from firing, with some additional flea bites. No other visible signs of damage or repair.
