Description
A collection of four offset lithographs by Allan Rohan Crite (American, 1910-2007), presented together in a single frame, each signed and dated within matrix "Allan R. Crite 1979". Each print depicting an African woman and a doppelgänger female rhythm pounder figure mimicking the woman's gesture. Collection comprising "Shango Cult Figure of Yoruba Nigeria" depicting a mother nursing a baby; "Mende Sierra Leone" depicting a woman with both arms extended before her; "Baule Republic of the Ivory Coast" depicting a woman with both hands on her lower stomach; and "Temme Republic of Sierra Leone" depicting a woman with one hand on her hip. Framed approximately 23.5" x 46.5". Each lithograph sight approximately 13.25" x 825". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia.Note: Crite's work is represented in major museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Phillips Collection, Washington D.C., Corcoran Gallery, Washington D.C., and Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C.
