Serial # 16 Cal .44 Colt, barrel length 7-1/2". This is an extremely low serial number which makes it one of the first Colt open top revolvers ever made. Sometimes referred to as a conversion, this is not entirely correct. This is Colt's first specifically manufactured revolver made for the bored through cylinder. These are typically found in horrible or altered condition. They were newly manufactured in 1871-72. In reality Colt's first big bore pistol made for the self contained cartridge. Its is standard in all respects to include: six shot, single action, scarce 1851 style navy grips and cut for a shoulder stock. All legends are fine. Metal is a smooth grey patina with minor age freckling. One piece walnut grips in scarce navy size. Proper rear sight slot, front side is missing. Given the scarcity of an all original open top, this one is far above average. Nice clean example of early Colt that proceeds the single action Army.
