Description
Bolivia, Aymara people, early 20th century CE. This is a piece of South American folk art, a wooden marriage bowl with clear cut marks. In the center, carved from the same piece of wood, stands a small ox. Twin handles, also from the same piece of wood, decorate the sides. Dishes like these are used to collect money for the new couple during the wedding reception. A pretty reminder of a traditional practice! Size: 8.9" L x 7" W x 2.5" H (22.6 cm x 17.8 cm x 6.4 cm)
