Lot 0021 Details

Description
An official leaf of Rabbi Yitzchak Blazer, with his logo from Jerusalem and his handwritten signature. The leaf contains a list of five people who had won a lottery, each of them receiving the amount of one Pound, the contribution of the noble Reb Yossef Kronheimer from Australia. Jerusalem, 1906.
At the margins of the letter: "The lottery was conducted in front of the undersigned the managers of the Vilna Kollel … the 16th of Kislev 1906".
The letter is signed by Rabbi Yitzchal Blazer, Rabbi Zalman Ha'Cohen Rubin and Rabbi Yosef Ziv.
In the letter we read about a "lottery" conducted in order to distribute funds, which were insufficient for all the residents.
The method of conducting a lottery was common in the old Yishuv. On the subject, see the book by Doron Herzog, "Goral Echad - Toldot Ha'Hagralot Be'Am Yisrael" (The history of lotteries among the Jewish people).
Rabi Yitzchak Blazer (1837-1907), a disciple of Rabbi Yisrael of Salant and responsible for publishing his book "Or Yisrael". Served as the rabbi of St. Petersburg. Immigrated to Israel in 1904 and became the head of the "Va'ad Klali" in Jerusalem despite his poor health and old age.
Condition: Excellent.
