Lush flower still life, its mums are in full bloom in front of a monochrome background. The painting is characterized by the contrast of the light flowers and the dark green of the plants.
The painting is in good condition consistent with the age. The varnish has been darkened and there are overall scattered marks and tiny craquelure. Retouched spots can be seen at the edges and corners. The frame shows usual signs of age and wear and tears and loss of material close to the edges. The dimensions are 115 x 147.5 cm and the frame measures 130 x 162 cm.
Angelina Drumaux (1881-1959)
Angelina Drumaux, daughter of the poet Arthur Drumaux, was a Belgian paintress focusing on flower still lifes. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Lige, her teacher was Adrien de Witte. Her oeuvre shows portraits, landscapes, seascapes, still lifes and first of all flower paintings. At the beginning Drumaux was guided by nature and created realistic depictions, later the artist painted in the style of postimpressionism. Works of Drumaux are in Brussels the collection of the Belgium state and in the museums of the following cities: Lige, Ghent and Paris. (msc)
