RARE FRENCH MINIATURES OF HOT AIR BALLOONS - 18th c. Round Miniature gouaches on ivory, in the original square mahogany bull's-eye frames, under domed lenses; one depicting the ascent of the first manned hot air balloon, designed by the Montgolfier brothers, at the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, on November 21, 1783; the other depicting the December 1, 1783, Frères Robert launch of the first manned hydrogen balloon from the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris. One is still backed by a fragment of an early letter. 1 3/4" diam image in 4" square frames. Very good condition.
