PHILADELPHIA CHIPPENDALE SIDECHAIR - 18th c. Walnut Chippendale Sidechair with a well shaped crest having scrolled ears and a carved cabochon shell in the center (with superimposed asymmetrical form possibly representing a comet). It has a pierced splat with heart at top of unadorned scrollwork, a trapezoidal slip seat in green mohair, cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in claw and ball feet. Old paper label reads "Loan of Jan 1907, Grace B. Keyes" and "Lucy Warner used. Chair belonged to Lucy Warner, married Roberts, Mother of Capt. P. Roberts, January 14, 1785". 18" seat, 39" back, 21 1/2" x 20 1/2". Edge scuffs, loss to molded edge at seat, wear to feet.
