China; Song Dynasty. A trapezoidal fragment of thick sheet bronze, heavily gilded with mythological animal and human forms in high relief. The form of this object suggests that it may have been part of a ceremonial quiver, made for the afterlife. Four collection stickers on reverse, two of which are Arthur Sackler and A. W. Bahr. Ex Christies, Sackler.
