An unusual brass lantern with a full casting of HOWARD"S PATENT on one side and APRIL 5 1864. This is not a big lantern, it's about the size of a large skater. This strange patent is for a cast globe that has a thread on the top and bottom and brass threads on the top and bottom assembly so you twist the globe on and off the top and bottom brass assemblies. It works fine. It's all brass. The pinch pot has a finger hole and it has a brass bail too. The brass work is very nice and is early. I remember seeing one of these once but I can't remember when or where. If you like odd patents, it's a corker.
