First edition of the first American book on the dog. The author was editor of the Turf Register and Assistant Postmaster General. With illustrated bookplate of Walter Rutherford Peterson on front pastedown, and period owner's signature at top of title page, small strip with printed description of volume tipped in to front endpapers. Scarce title in original binding.

Condition

Some wear and soiling to binding, rubbing to extremities, darkening along edges and spine with light corner bumps; hinges cracked, darkening to plates and scattered foxing; very good.
