U.S. Military telegraph out of Fort Monroe, Va. Dated June 1st 1862. Addressed to Thomas T. Eckert. The letter addresses a successful balloon reconnaissance. "Park Spring (telegraph operator) has been 2000ft in the air all day. Working beautifully and giving constant reports to McClellan of position of enemy. Most perfect success. Must have wonderful effect and results. Do you see men where the trouble was Between... Signed Sheldon: The letter came out of an estate in North Carolina. We have not evaluated its validity.


The letter is in a frame and the writing is clear. There is a smudge at the top almost resembling a palm print. Several stains on the letter.
