A partially printed inked manuscript document, 6 ½ x 2 ¾ inches on laid paper, printed by Francis Bailey of Lancaster reading, York County I Do hereby certify that Nicholas Schreek hath voluntarily take and subscribed the Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity as directed y an Act of General Assembly of Pennlyvania (sic), passed the 13th Day of June, A/D/ 1777. Witness my Hand and Seal, the 29th Day of May Anno Domini 1778 No 102 Andrew Thompson. Pressure mounted and framed, 8 x 11 inches. Within a year after the Declaration of Independence was adopted the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania passed legislation requiring all males over the age of 18 to take an oath of allegiances to the new government and renouncing the old allegiances to Great Britain.
