"HANDPAINTED / HEREND / HUNGARY" around shield and crown, "HEREND HUNGARY / HANDPAINTED" with crossed brushes, most also impressed "HEREND". Herend Porcelain Manufactory, Hungary. Catalogue Note: First developed in 1860, the Rothschild bird pattern is based on a family story that the baroness Rothschild lost a pearl necklace and several days later the necklace was found in a tree being played with by small birds.
