Redware Jar with Brushed Manganese Decoration, Adams County, PA origin, probably Solomon Miller, fourth quarter 19th century, semi-ovoid jar with heavily-tooled banding, decorated with a large wavy stripe of manganese, underscored by additional manganese brushwork, the surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a mottled greenish ground. Additional manganese decoration to rim. This jar is decorated in a similar manner to a spittoon bearing the incised signature of Adams County, PA potter, Solomon Miller. Excellent, folky decoration and good color. Three rim chips, the largest measuring 1 3/4". Glazed surface survives in excellent condition. H 7".
