Description: Album of 24 leaves, with 41 photographs approx. 7½x9½ or larger; 9 are 4x7 or smaller; and 4 are 6x8½. Many are captioned in ink on the mount, some with photographer credit in the negative. 10½x14½, leather covers.Fascinating selection of views, likely compiled by a missionary family, including notable landmarks as well as rare candid views. Six of the photographs on India are credited to Townshend, and one to T.A. Rust. Of the 14 photographs of Ceylon, half are credited to Scowen & Co. Among the views are Mission Bungalo, Hurda, India; Mission School, Hurda, India; Library, Hurda, India; Virginia Falls, Pachmarhi Hill Station; Native Barber, Hurda; Weavers, Jubulpur, India; Taj Mahal; Hindoo Bathing Place, Hurda, India; Old Residency in Lucknow; Native Bathing Place, Columbo, Ceylon; Clocktower, Preaching in the Bazaar, Hurda, India; Hindus performing Yoga, etc.
