Lyzhny Agitprobeg [Propaganda Ski Rally], a lithographed sheet by Ekaterina Zernova (1900-1995, Meritorious Artist of the RSFSR). OGIZ - IZOGIZ, Moscow, 1932, 51.5 x 34.5 cm.
A graduate of Moscow SVOMAS/VKhUTEMAS (class of 1924), painter Ekaterina Zernova quickly established a reputation as one of the leading young Soviet artists. She was considered one of the leaders of OST, the Society of Easel Painters, and her genre works were regularly shown in Soviet exhibitions abroad. In 1920s and 1930s, she also regularly worked as a graphic artist, illustrating books and producing mass-print lithographs. Eventually Zernova turned away from genre painting, concentrating instead on murals and theater and film projects, and in retirement on landscapes and still life.
