Large Roseville Pauleo vase, most likely an experimental glaze combination consisting of fired on gold thistles on a jet black ground. Unmarked but identical in style and execution to a marked Pauleo also in this sale. Height 20 5/8 inches. Restoration to chips at the rim and on the base. This vase belonged to Wade France, Roseville's last employee who personally closed the plant in 1956 and was responsible for removal of items from the facility. The vase may have been in the company showroom and kept by France when the pottery was officially closed. Consigned by the Grandson of Mr. France.
