Very good, with a few small scuffs but no notable stains, with the gilt lettering clearly legible, the blue background unfaded, and with straight and securely attached spines. The front end pages of volumes 2, 3 +4 have a personal bookplate. Volume 1 doesn't, but there is glue residue in that position. There are no other attachments. I've found no writing. The page edges have a number of light stains - mostly foxing, and the end pages are lightly sunned, but there are few stains - none of consequence - to the page faces throughout the book bodies. The many illustrations and all text are clean and unfaded. The bindings are sound, with no loose or missing pages. There are no page tears and few creases.
