Gustave Henri Émile Blanchot (23 May 1883-1 September 1968) was a French illustrator and writer. At the age of 8, he began using the nom de plume Gus Bofa. The writer Pierre Mac Orlan said of him: “Gus Bofa is primarily a writer who has chosen drawing to achieve his goals. A Bofa text, a Bofa drawing are constructed of the same material and both are animated by the same beam of humorous poetry that includes everything that takes place between life and death.”

  • Condition

Fair, this is worn, with a spine that’s lost most of its top layer, resulting in detached front and back covers. There are a number of scuffs and a few shallow tears to the cover. There are also a few shallow tears to the pages, though most pages have no tears. All pages are present, including the four color pages (two single page illustrations and one fold-out two page illustration). The page-to-page binding is good, with the first leaves loose, but with all other pages securely bound. There are no missing pages. The pagination ends at page 62, but several end pages are not numbered. Many pages are uncut. All the illustrations are unfaded and most are without stains, though there are light stains to several. There are no stamps or other attachments. There is no writing.
