Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian to La Tolita phase, ca. 1500 to 300 BCE. Among the largest we have ever had the privilege of handling, a beautiful ritual hacha, of a flat, abstract form with an angular blade at the lower end and two protrusions at the top for attachment, carved from one piece of stunning greenstone of rich, dark green hues. Magnificent for its scale as well as the inherent beauty of this aged stone with marvelous patina. A fine and rare example. Custom wood stand. Size: hacha itself measures 7.25" W x 9.75" H (18.4 cm x 24.8 cm); 13" H (33 cm) on stand
Provenance: Ex-NYC collection, ex southern California Poway collection
