James Ellsworth De Kay (1792 - 1851) was a Lisbon-born American zoologist. Kay studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh before giving that up to focus on natural history. He became involved with the Geological Survey of New York and published many zoology volumes on diverse subjects such as mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians and fish.
