The akinakes was made famous by the nomadic Scythians, adopted by the Persians and ultimately, the Greeks. Handwrought of iron with guard of lobate type and antennae pommel, the straight, double blade terminating in a point. 5th-3rd century b.c.e. Excavated; grip scales lacking. Overall length 37 cm. Alexander the Great defeated the Scythian (or Saccae) at the Battle of Jaxartes in 329 b.c.e. Condition V
