Louis XV Style Carved Walnut Marble Top Chest, c. 1900, the arched shell and scroll crest over a wide shaped beveled mirror, on scrolled supports flanked by glove boxes, on a base with an inset figured rouge marble over a frieze drawer and double cupboard doors with an interior with drawers, over a bottom "secret" drawer, on scrolled cabriole legs with French toes, H.- 83 in., W.- 50 1/2 in., D.- 21 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Approximate 3 inch piece of trim lacking from the front corners of the top. A watermark on the top of the left drawer. A pea-size chip in the front edge of the marble. Scattered fault lines with pitting in the marble. A ½ inch chip in the right edge. Six spots of light discoloration on the top of the right drawer, ranging between pea-size to 1 inch. An approximate 2 inch piece of trim lacking from the right side of the drawer. Small loss to carving in the crown. Light scratches, scuffs and dents intermittently throughout. A lovely example.
