Lot 0018
An unusual animal trapping, used on the foreheads of the lead animal in a pack train of animals used to transport goods across the vast expanse of the harsh environs of the plateau. This example is fragmented, missing the extension seen in the first photograph to the upper left. It should have an equally long extension on the upper right.Still the whimsical nature of the design is evident, with a ‘shou’ pattern adopted from Chinese iconography in the center (in green) above what could be an unfolding flower or lotus. The ‘dots’ of color sprinkled about the orange dyed field are quite lovely and very different from other weavings of this type that we have seen. The structure, too, is quite different, not looking like the back of any Tibetan rug that I have previously seen and is presumably an obscure nomadic weaving, hence, the whimsical paterning? SIZE - 8" x 9"

Condition

The condition is ok, it is fragmented, missing an "ear" off the right side. No repairs, no reweaves. SIZE - 8" x 9"
