Lot 0030
  • Jewelry: Viking Man’s Wedding
  • Date: Ring 850-1050 A.D.
  • Size: 9.5
  • Material: Copper

Medium width rounded band. Made of copper, which is virtually unheard of in other cultures where it was invariably alloyed with tin or zinc to make bronze or brass. The use of unalloyed copper is specific to Vikings who were highly skilled metallurgists. Vikings exchanged rings on the pommel of the groom’s sword.
