This is a unusual and interesting old Abstract wooden idol from the Azande peoples of central Africa, the Congo region. A highly abstract human figure made of wood, known locally as "Yanda" Such idols belong to the ‘Mani society’ of the Zande people, in northern Congo. They are ‘charged’ with magic powers by the head of the ‘Mani society’ and are believed to protect from illness, witchcraft and sterility, and to guarantee successful hunting trips. Measures 9 inches tall on wooden base.
