Lot 0261
A set of (4) exclusive potting Flow Blue transferware rimmed large coupe soup bowls by Furnivals in early 1895. Our unique bowls carry 2 base impressions + 2 stamps, including a 4 leaf clover, and banner indicating the Orleans pattern, and the New York USA import L.S. & S stamp, standing for Lazarus Straus & Son. L.S. & S was a top end company that had exclusivity on most patterns in china, glass & pottery. The 2 impressions are Furnivals, and as our bowls have the proper English RD No. 254069, dating to 1895, our English references should identify this pattern. However the Kowalsky's, Geoffrey Godden and others do not list this number?? The answer is that the unique pattern for L.S. & S was never marketed in England. THIS MAKES THESE 1895 SEMI PORCELAIN ANTIQUES TRULY RARE! The Furnival family began in the earthenware business in 1843, beginning with Jacob & Thomas Furnival, followed by Jacob Furnival & Co., Thomas Furnival & Sons, and finally Furnivals (Ltd.). The anchor & dagger mark was first registered in 1878, with our version seen only 1 year before the introduction of the (Ltd.) to the Furnivals mark in 1896.10x10x1.50". Weight is 5 pds 10 oz
