Here is an amazing color drawing by Seymour Meyer. He is famous for his biomorphic sculptures but his original drawings have never been offered on the market before. Here is one of his original abstract pieces purchased from his estate in Long Island, NY. This following biography was researched, compiled, and written by Geoffrey K. Fleming, Director, Southold Historical Society, Southold, NY.Seymour W. Meyer (May 27, 1914 – April 20, 2009)Sculptor and physician. Born in Brooklyn to Nettie (b. 1887) and Louis Meyer (b. 1877). His father was a shoe dealer with his own store. Both his parents were Jewish immigrants from Russia who later became naturalized United States citizens. During his youth, the family resided on Tompkins Avenue in Brooklyn, Long Island, New York. Meyer attended Brooklyn College, where he graduated in 1934 (he won a lifetime achievement award from the college in 1994).This piece verges on being Memphis Milano. It's interesting to see how the biomorphic shapes of the 70s turned into the iconic Milano style in Meyer's work. It measures 22" x 28". There is some foxing on the paper. One of the few pieces from his estate that is actually signed S Meyer.
