Chinese, mid-20th century. A substantial and heavy black lacquered 4-panel floor screen having copper covered bracket feet to bottom of each panel, four square cartouches along bottom edge containing flowers and auspicious objects, and a courtly figural scene to body of screen depicting women leisurely set in a garden along with a pair of cranes, the figures each in relief and having carved bone face, the scene's background created with gilded incised line to show a back garden wall with gate entrance at left, the whole bordered with mother of pearl inlaid floral patterning. Screen back with gilded flower clusters. Approximate height 72", each panel width 17.75", overall width approximately 72".
