Description
92. FREDERICK DOUGLASS (1817-1895). Abolitionist, gifted orator and escaped slave who was a leader of the Underground Railroad in NY and helped to raise two black Massachusetts regiments during the Civil War. He edited the abolitionist newspaper North Star. ANS, 1p, 4½"x1¾", [n.p.], 1868. On lightly lined paper in full: "With kindest Regards and Every wish for your happiness. Yours truly..." Darkly penned and signed, adding year. Nicely mounted beside 4¼"x6¼" quarter-length portrait. Overall 12"x9". Fine example. Est: $300-500
