elaborate and fine [scherenschnitte], circa 1850, attributed to Beckman V. Huffman, New York, circa 1850, commemorating the lives of Cornelius Westcott Milliken ((1821-1849), his wife, Clara S. Foster (1827-1853) and their sons William Augustus Milliken (1850-1896) and Maynard Hale Milliken, (1852-1888), from Trenton, Hancock, Maine, circa 1850, signed, inked black paper on cream wove paper with ink inscriptions on , 22-7/8 x 17-3/4 in. (sight); 19th century gilt silver frame,. Condition: some losses, folds, breaks, toning, not removed from frame; frame with abrasions. Notes: Beekman V. Hoffman served as lieutenant on the U.S.S. Constitution. A similar cut-out by the same hand, depicting the ship North Carolina, was illustrated on the cover of The Magazine Antiques, February 1952. Two depictions of the U.S.S. Constitution are also known: one was illustrated in the Old Print Shop Portfolio in December 1952, and the second, signed "B. V. Hoffman", sold at Northeast Auctions, August 2010 for $25,000..
