    Edition de Luxe. Leather bound. 21 Volumes. Edition de Luxe, limited to 1000 sets, this being number 146. Twenty-one of the twenty-four volumes, lacking Volumes III, XII, XIII. A truly beautifully bound set of the works of the greatest writer in the history of the English language, with additional material by noted scholars Sir Israel Gollancz, Alexander Dyce, William James Rolfe, and Henry N. Hudson. Volumes XXI to XXIV contain the Shakespeare Apocrypha with a history of pre-Shakespeare English drama and a character index, Rolfe's Life of Shakespeare, and Dyce's Glossary in two volumes.

  • Condition

    Three-quarter red leather with marbled paper over sides. Five raised bands and gilt lettering to spines, with comic face devices stamped in gilt. Top edges gilt, with occasional light scuff. Matching marbled endpapers. Printed tissue guarded frontispieces and several printed tissue-guarded illustrations to each volume, with offsetting to guards. Moderate edgewear to bindings, with extremities rubbed to boards. Edges darkened in places to some volumes. Spines darkened to Volumes XI, XIV-XXIV, with heavier edgewear and mild flaking to leather edges to these volumes. Chipping to head of spines of Volumes XIV (1/4" X 1") and Volume XVIII (1/4" X 1"). Front hinge cracking to Volumes XIV, XXIII, XXIV, all other bindings sound. Pages clean and unmarked.
