Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulian, ca. 4th century BCE. A lovely two-part vessel used to store soaps and scented perfumes for the bath, decorated with twin Lady of Fashion portraits separated by palmettes and tendrils, a four-petaled flower behind the head of one lady, the knobbed lid decorated with rays, sinuous lines and dots surrounded by a fretted band that matches the band around the base of the lid - all skillfully executed via the red-figure technique.
