Ancient Greece, Athens, ca. 525 to 475 BCE. A classic blackware kylix with a wide, shallow cup, standing upon a raised ring base, with twin horizontal handles on either side of cup. The monochromatic finish serves to accentuate the contours of this superb form. A stamped makers mark on tondo comprised of four leaves surrounding an incised circle, and a black painted circle on the underside as is characteristic of much Attic ware.
