  • Condition

The covers (app. 5.25" x 7.75") are in good overall condition, with shallow tears to the ends of some spines, and scuffs to the boards of some volumes, but with no significant stains, no looseness at the spine or to the boards. The green cloth backgrounds are unfaded, but with shallow dinks and other minor edge wear. The gilt titles are clearly legible. The inside are very good. One volume has a number of tears to the outside page edges, from improper edge-slitting. None of the other volumes have like damage. The bindings are tight throughout, with no loose or missing pages. There are no stamps or other attachments. There are a few pencil notations to the end pages, but almost all pages have none. There are no pen or other indelible markings. All the text is clean and unfaded, as are the frontispiece portraits of Thoreau, present in several volumes, and the fold-old frontispiece map of Concord.
