First printing with advertisement on verso of half-title listing 8 titles through The Scarecrow of Oz, and with 12 inserted color plates without captions. Baum considered this the best of all his Oz books. Later issue dust jacket [c. 1920] with synopsis on front flap and blank rear flap. Bienvenue & Schmidt, p. 63.


Some soiling to jacket with small closed tears at edges and some chips, the largest at top corner of front panel and head and heel of spine, toning and numerous repairs made with cello tape on reverse of jacket, light wear and soiling to cloth with light rubbing to extremities; interior solid with light toning and a few small areas of staining; very good with good jacket.
