Rather unusual 19th century small Japanese metal box with the top showing in low relief a crane in flight above water lilies. The sides and bottom appear to be metal, the top is silver. Wonderful crisp work, beautiful depiction of differentiated feathers, feet and leaf veins. Two parts fit snugly, very pleasant wear and patina. Must have been used for storing small items such as medicinal pills.
