French Henri II Style Carved Oak Desk, c. 1880, with a large arched crest over a back with five drawers, on a base with an inset gilt tooled leather writing surface above a center drawer flanked by two drawers on each side, on rope twist legs joined by an H-form stretcher with a central finial, H.- 52 in., W.- 50 1/2 in., D.- 32 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. One key present but locks stick. Approximate 3 inch piece of trim loose on the left side of the crest. Scattered dents and light scratches to leather. Approximate 2 inch square area of gouges and a 5 inch gouge under the bank of drawers. Half of knob on the bottom right drawer lacking. An approximate ½ inch chip to the back right corner of the top. Scattered chipping under the bottom edge. Several pea-size holes in the left stretcher. A 2 inch chip to the central stretcher. A handsome piece.
