French Louis Philippe Carved Walnut Marble Top Commode, 19th c., the reeded edge rounded corner highly figured grey marble over a cavetto frieze drawer above three deep drawers and a bottom "secret" drawer, on a plinth base on ogee block feet, H.- 38 7/8 in., W.- 50 in., D.- 22 1/2 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Brown discoloration along the back edge of the marble. Light scratches throughout the marble. Rippling veneer and a ½ inch chip on the center of the top drawer. A ½ inch chip at the top left corner of the top drawer. A crack across the bottom keyhole. A ½ inch chip to the keyhole on the second drawer. Pea-size light spots intermittently throughout the front of the drawers. Two vertical humidity cracks on each side. A 3 inch horizontal crack at the top of the right side. A 1 inch chip on the back right corner. A lovely example.
