Three Piece French Carved Walnut Louis XV Style Bedroom Suite, early 20th c., consisting of a pair of single beds, with serpentine arched headboards with floral and C-scroll crests to serpentine footboards, with a high relief floral medallion, H.- 61 1/2 in., W.- 74 in., D.- 42 in., together with a matching armoire, with an arched stepped crown with a central C-scroll and leaf crest over two arched beveled mirror doors flanking a central panel with a mirror over a solid bottom, on scrolled cabriole legs with toupie feet, joined by an arched serpentine skirt, H.- 96 in., W.- 65 in., D.- 23 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Light scratches, wear, and small dents intermittently throughout. Armoire- Craquelure to silvering on mirror, especially the left and center panels. A 12 inch drip of wood glue on the left side of the crown. An approximate 3 inch rectangular chip on the lower left corner of the left door, exposing a hinge. A 1 inch chip and 4 inch scratch along the bottom. A 3 inch scratch to the upper left. Top section of carving on the crest lacking. Three 1 inch cracks above the doors. A 3 inch hairline crack in the top edge of the crown. A 4 inch crack in the upper right corner of the right door. A 2 inch chip to the lower right edge. Beds- An approximate 12 inch crack and ¼ inch gap around a bolt where one rail meets a footboard. Glue drips nearby. A 4 inch hairline crack on the rail near the headboard. A 1inch light discoloration on the headboard. Two approximate 12 inch scratches on one headboard. A 12 inch vertical crack in the carving on one footboard. Approximate 3 inch spiral carving on a foot on one footboard lacking. A crack across the upper 3 inches of a crest on one headboard. Apparent repair to an 18 inch crack in one rail (two brackets on the interior to secure wood around bolt). Another apparent repair to a 10 inch crack on the other end of the rail (one bracket). A nice set.
