3/3/17, 9:30 AM CST: This is most likely a fragment of a larger textile. There are areas with thread loss, where the strands have separated or gathered and have produced small gaps. There appears to be a seam at the center, possibly an old repair. There is fraying and breaks to the metal thread, seen in on the right side of the panel. Fraying to corners, and the ground thread (probably linen) is visible in some areas. The embroidery appears to be stitch mounted to the fabric wrapped stretcher. The lower left corner has loss, but has been restored with silver tone thread. Overall, the embroidery views well in person and is in fair condition for its age.
