Lot 0481
Merklen Brothers consisting of twist arms and legs. The back with carved Moorish fretwork panels and spiral panel ending in ball ends. Moorish fretwork pieces were likely made by Ransom Moorish Fretwork which weaves long strands of spiral turnings into panels. (1838-1906) and Merklen Brothers of New York City during the late 19th century. Ransom patented his version of a spiral molding lathe on October 28, 1884 to make thin barley twist strands that could be woven into screens to make Moorish fretwork. H. 42" W. 23" D. 30". Overall condition good, there are a couple broken and small missing pieces of fretwork.
