    Signed in ink “Goltzius” perhaps by another hand, lower center.
    Trimmed on the lower part of the engraving.
    This engraving was numbered as “6” (presumably out of seven in the series).
    The lower portion of the print (where the #6 was engraved) is not present as it has been trimmed.
    Hendrick Goltzius was a German-born Dutch printmaker, draftsman, and painter. He was the leading Dutch engraver of the early Baroque period noted for his intricate technique and the extravagance of his compositions. He is recognized as one of the great masters of the art of printmaking.Cornelis Jacobszoon Drebbel worked initially as a painter, engraver and cartographer. This print offered in our gallery was a product of that period in his life. Later however he became a builder of the first navigable submarine in 1620. Drebbel also contributed to the development of measurement and control systems, optics and chemistry.
