Hamlett Dobbins received his B.F.A. from the University of Memphis and his M.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. He has had residencies at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson. He was the recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Grant in 2000 and the Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant in 2003. He worked as the curator for Delta Axis @ Marshall Arts from 1999 until 2001. He is the director of Clough-Hanson Gallery at Rhodes College in Memphis and continues to serve on the Delta Axis board. "Untitled (for McCoy)" is from an ongoing series called The Early Morning Paintings.
