Larry Edwards states that this work is from a series involving animals dressed and acting like humans. Edwards makes social comment on absurd aspects of human behavior and the foolishness of some human activities. When he dresses up animals such as flamingos, the implied human behavior is even more absurd. Larry Edwards is a dynamic painter, currently residing and maintaining a studio in Memphis, Tennessee and exhibiting his work regularly on the east coast and across the southern United States. Larry Edwards is a recipient of several awards and grants, including Penny McCall Foundation Fellowship, NY, Art Matters, INC. NY, and the Tennessee Arts Commission and Anne and Walter Knestrick Foundation Visual Arts Fellowships. His work has been seen at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts and at a variety of university galleries, and resides in numerous permanent and private collections throughout the eastern US. Larry Edwards served as the Chairman and Professor of Art at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC during 1966-1976, Chairman of the Art Department at Penn State Univeristy from 1976-78, Chairman of the Art Department at University of Memphis from 1978-1983, instructor of art until retiring in 1997. He now paints eight days a week.
