Bactria-Margiana (BMAC), modern day central Asia, ca. 3rd to 2nd millennium BCE. A gorgeous heavy sandstone bowl or cup. The sandstone is a very pale cream-color with narrow bands of yellow, especially around its upper body and interior. Wonderful to touch and hold, this must have been a treasured item. Size: 4.8" W x 3.75" H (12.2 cm x 9.5 cm)
Sandstone like this probably originated in the ancient Near East, making its way to Bactria through the regular trade routes that crisscrossed that region throughout antiquity.
