A late Victorian gold gem-set brooch. The circular-shape greyish-blue gem collet, within an oval-shape garnet and circular-shape greyish-blue gem double surround, to the raised motif border and lock of hair reverse. AF. Diameter 3.1cms. Weight 9.8gms.

Condition

  • Overall condition poor. Scratches, discolouration and dents in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Areas of the of the border are worn.

  • Part of the gem-set surround is bent out of shape.

  • Clear panel on the reverse of brooch needs repair.

  • Pin does not close.

  • Garnets medium redish-purple, fairly well saturated, with good clarity.

  • Stones in fair condition with some abrasion and minor nibbles to the girdle and facet edges.
