1/4 plate tintype photo of Private William W Heath of Newbury Vermont. Co H 4th Vermont infantry who was killed at the Wilderness May 5th 1864. Heath appears in full kit with Model 1841 musket, sabre bayonet, knapsack, canteen, blanket roll, etc. A wonderful clear image in original thermoplastic/ gutta percha case, Comes with 1863 diary with many entries, and bible inscribed with Heath's name, Co. H, Camp Griffith.- Large charcoal photoprocess portrait of Heath-sans beard as private 20 x 15" - This tintype is undoubtedly the most reproduced image of a Vermont soldier from the war. A copy is in the archives of the Library of Congress and it has been used in many books and magazine articles.
